The objective was to move away from treating ESG performance as a series of standalone reports and instead embed it as an integral part of portfolio management. This required an approach in which sustainability is continuously visible and directly linked to risk, compliance and value.

Approach

We integrated ESG data into the existing valuation and management processes, ensuring that relevant sustainability insights are directly available within analyses and decision making.The approach focused on three levels.

• Insight into ESG performance at both asset and portfolio level.
• Continuous monitoring of relevant ESG themes.
• Making the relationship between ESG performance, risk and value explicit.

This integration creates a single, coherent view in which sustainability, financial performance and risk are assessed in relation to one another.

Result

The client now has continuous and up to date insight into ESG performance across the portfolio. This enables more targeted steering on risk and compliance, and allows ESG to be incorporated into valuation considerations and investment decisions.ESG has therefore shifted from retrospective reporting to an active component of day to day portfolio management.
